Hunting
As a direct result of the Texas Parks and Wildlife’s intensive wildlife management programs, hunting in Texas is better today than ever before. The deer herd is a very healthy 4 million animals and the wild turkey population exceeds 600,000 birds. Our liberal bag limits, long seasons and affordable hunting licenses explains why so many record book bucks are taken each year in Texas. At Tillie’s our primary focus is providing a memorable hunt in a safe and private environment. Consequently, we host only one hunting party at a time, even if there is just one hunter. The ranch is virtually free of cedar and is dominated by large stands of oaks with rolling hills and deep draws that hold an abundance of deer and turkey. Based upon each hunter’s desires, whitetail hunts are conducted either on foot “still hunting” or in state of the art ground blinds with feeders. Typically, exotics are hunted using “spot and stalk” techniques. All hunts are fully guided to ensure the best possible experience. Transportation to and from hunting areas is provided by your guide. Rifle, bow, handgun and black powder hunters are all welcome. We do have a rifle range at Tillie’s if you would like to check the accuracy of your rifle or handgun prior to hunting.
Hunting Season
Tillie’s Ranch is certified as level 3 in the Texas Managed Lands Deer Permit (MLDP) Program. This habitat focused program allows ranches involved in a formal management program to have the state’s most flexible seasons with increased harvest opportunities. Consequently, we can hunt whitetail deer at Tillie’s from the last weekend in September through the last weekend in February, which is a five month hunting season. The normal hunting season in Texas is 2 months. In addition to the extended season, the state also provides all permits (tags) for every deer taken at Tillie’s. So while each hunter must have a valid Texas hunting license, you will not be required to use your tags on deer shot at Tillie’s, rather you will use our permits (tags) provided by the state for the MLDP program. If you would like to learn more about the MLDP program, please visit the Texas Parks and Wildlife website.
Hunting License
All hunters at Tillie’s must have a valid Texas Hunting License. In addition, every hunter (including out-of-state hunters) born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, must have successfully completed a Hunter Education Training Course. If you would like more information, please visit the licensing section of the Texas Parks and Wildlife website.
